LoRA

LoRA, or low-rank adaptation, adapts a model by training comparatively small update matrices while keeping the base weights frozen.

Illustrative example

An image workflow loads a compatible style LoRA alongside its base model.

LoRA is an adaptation technique, and people also use the name for a saved adapter produced with it. During training, the adapter learns changes while the original base weight matrix stays fixed. At use time, base model and adapter work together, or compatible software may merge their weights. Hugging Face explains LoRA.

An adapter is not generally a complete standalone model. Check which base model and architecture it expects. A file trained for one family should not be treated as interchangeable with every model.

Record the adapter's filename and strength setting as well as the base model. Change one setting at a time and inspect the output. Its presence alone does not establish faithful identity or consistency across every input. Follow the author's documented requirements and intended use.
